| QR35 | Tue, Thu, Sat | About 2.20am | Around 6.35am |

The aircraft and schedule changes
Schedule data lists a Boeing 787-8 for these flights. Some summer 2026 departures used an Airbus A350-900 instead, so the aircraft type can change. Look at your seat map when you check in online.
Birmingham Airport welcomed Qatar Airways back in July 2023 with daily flights. The airline codeshares with British Airways, so you can also reach some destinations on BA flights from Doha.
How early to arrive at Birmingham Airport
When check-in opens
Birmingham Airport doesn’t publish a fixed opening time for each airline. It says your check-in time can usually be found on your boarding card, and to check with the airline for the precise time. Travel guides commonly say Qatar Airways counters open about three hours before an international departure. Treat that as a guide, and confirm it on your booking.
Our recommended arrival time
For long-haul flights, we recommend arriving three hours before departure, according to our guide on how early to arrive at Birmingham Airport. Add 30 minutes in July, August and December. That gives you time to drop a bag, clear security and walk to the gate.
What the airline’s cut-offs look like
Travel guides generally report that Qatar Airways check-in counters close about 60 minutes before departure. They also report that the boarding gate closes about 20 minutes before. Qatar Airways doesn’t publish those figures on the pages we reviewed, so treat them as typical. Your booking shows the deadlines for your flight.
What that means for each flight
| Flight | Departure | Arrive at the airport (about) |
|---|---|---|
| QR34 | 2.10pm | 11.10am |
| QR36 | 7.40am to 8am | 4.40am to 5am |
An early start means leaving home in the middle of the night. Our guide to early-morning airport transfers explains how to plan it.
Check-in at Birmingham Airport
Online check-in
Qatar Airways says online check-in is available from 48 hours to 90 minutes before departure. Its check-in page adds that this also works when the first flight on your booking is operated by Qatar Airways. Check in online to choose your seat and add your Privilege Club number.
Kiosks and bag drop
Qatar Airways lists Birmingham among the airports with self-service check-in kiosks. It doesn’t list Birmingham for automated bag drop, so expect to drop a hold bag at the Zone C desk. The airline also lists Birmingham among the airports that accept a digital boarding pass on your phone. If you hold only hand luggage, you can usually go straight to security with your boarding pass.
Finding Zone C
Birmingham Airport has one terminal, and its airline directory lists Qatar Airways in check-in zone C, with Swissport as the handling agent. It also gives a UK contact number for Qatar Airways, 0330 024 0125.
Desks are on the ground floor, according to the airport’s check-in information page, and Zones B and C serve most airlines. Security is on the first floor, according to its what to expect guide, with entrances near Zones A and B.
For the full process from drop-off to the gate, see our Birmingham Airport departure guide.
Baggage allowance on Qatar Airways from the UK
Checked bags
On UK routes, Qatar Airways uses a weight allowance. Economy Lite includes 20 kg, Economy Classic 25 kg, Economy Convenience 30 kg and Economy Comfort 35 kg. Business Class includes 40 kg. You can split the weight across bags, up to 32 kg per bag.
Cabin bags
Economy passengers can take one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, no larger than 50 cm by 37 cm by 25 cm. Business Class passengers get two cabin pieces with a combined limit of 15 kg. Our guide to UK hand luggage size and weight rules covers the UK security side.
Weigh your bags at home
Fare names decide your allowance, and the cheapest fare often carries the lowest weight. Weigh your cases before you leave, because repacking at the desk costs time. Extra weight usually costs less if you buy it online before you travel. Our Emirates vs Qatar Airways vs Etihad guide compares the baggage rules side by side.
Entry rules for Doha
Visa and passport
British citizens on a full British passport receive a visa waiver on arrival for up to 30 days. That comes from our airline comparison, which reads GOV.UK. Your passport needs six months’ validity from the day you arrive. If you stay beyond 30 days, you must extend through Qatar’s Ministry of Interior before the waiver expires.
Transit rules in Doha
Passengers can’t stay in the transit area for more than 24 hours between flights. If you continue to Asia, Africa or Australia, check the entry rules for your final destination. The airline can refuse boarding if your documents are wrong. Check GOV.UK’s Qatar travel advice before you fly.
Flying to Doha in 2026
Gulf aviation had a disrupted year. From late February 2026, a conflict involving Iran closed airspace across the region, and Qatar Airways briefly suspended flights. Our comparison reports that the airline restored most of its network. It also says the FCDO lifted its advice against all but essential travel to Qatar in June 2026, though it still describes the situation as unpredictable.

Arriving back from Doha
Early-morning and lunchtime landings
QR35 lands around 6.35am on its days, and QR33 lands around 12.40pm. Flights can arrive early or late, so your pickup should follow your actual landing time. Our Birmingham Airport arrival guide explains what to expect after landing.
Meeting your driver
With meet and greet at Birmingham Airport, your chauffeur waits for you in arrivals. If your flight is late, our guide to what happens when your flight is delayed explains how pickups are adjusted.
Hand luggage and security at BHX
Security at Birmingham Airport is on the first floor, and liquids limits apply to your cabin bag. Our guide to the UK liquids rules explains what to pack. Keep your passport, boarding pass and any medication in an easy-to-reach pocket.
A seven-hour flight is easier with a charged phone, headphones and a light jumper. Qatar Airways’ 7 kg cabin limit covers your bag and anything else you carry on, so pack with that weight in mind.
Lounges, children and assistance
Lounges
If you have time before a long flight, our Birmingham Airport lounges guide explains your options. Check which lounges your ticket gives you access to.
Families and assistance
Young children usually have their own allowance, and infants often have a smaller one. Rules differ by fare, so check your booking. If anyone in your group needs help in the airport, ask the airline in advance. Our guide to Birmingham Airport special assistance explains how it works.
Mistakes that cost passengers time
- Arriving less than three hours before an early-morning flight.
- Packing over the weight allowance for your fare.
- Not checking your passport’s six-month validity.
- Waiting for a delayed pickup without telling your driver.
- Forgetting that the clocks change in March and shift flight times.
Onward connections from Doha
Many passengers use the Birmingham flight as the first leg of a longer trip. Qatar Airways has said its network from Doha includes Australasia, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
Book the whole journey on one ticket where you can, because the airline then usually looks after you if the first flight runs late. Check the entry rules for every country on your route, and keep a spare change of clothes in your cabin bag. Our Birmingham Airport Doha page lists the airport’s own destination information.
A sample departure day for QR34
This example is only an illustration. Check your booking for the exact times, and adjust it for your journey.
- 9.30am: Your driver arrives, and you load the luggage.
- 11.10am: Arrive at Birmingham Airport, three hours before departure.
- 11.20am: Drop your bags at Zone C, or go to security with hand luggage.
- 12.30pm: Clear security and find your gate.
- 2.10pm: Depart for Doha.
A morning QR36 departure needs a much earlier start. Aim to reach the airport at about 4.40am to 5am, so a pickup around 3.30am to 4am is realistic. Book the car the night before, and tell your driver your flight number.
Booking the right transfer
For a long-haul flight, the pickup time matters more than the price. Choose a time that gets you to the airport three hours before departure, with a buffer for the roads. For a late return, make sure your driver tracks your landing time. Our transfers include flight monitoring, so a delayed arrival from Doha doesn’t leave you waiting.
Pickups across Birmingham and the Midlands
We collect from homes, hotels and offices across the region. That includes pickups from Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Leicester and Bromsgrove.
