Utilita Arena parking is easiest when you match your plan to the night. Three car parks sit on site, but the West car park is for pre-booked and hospitality customers only. The other two fill quickly on big nights.
This guide follows the upcoming event calendar, from early November to the Christmas run-up. You’ll see the confirmed doors times and the nights when both the city and the NEC are busy. The guide also explains how to plan drop-off and the journey home for each type of show.

Which nights need the most planning
Friday and Saturday gigs
Arena nights at the end of the week bring the heaviest traffic. Doors usually open at 6pm, so the late-afternoon commute meets the first arrivals. The car parks fill, and the roads around King Edwards Road slow down. Book your parking or your driver as early as you can.
Nights when the NEC is busy too
On some dates, bp pulse LIVE at the NEC has a show as well. The two venues are in different parts of the region, because bp pulse LIVE sits beside Birmingham Airport. Check the postcode on your ticket: B1 2AA for Utilita Arena, and B40 1NT for bp pulse LIVE.
- 13 November (Friday): Paul Heaton here, and Atif Aslam at the NEC.
- 21 November (Saturday): Courteeners here, and Deep Purple at the NEC.
- 28 November (Saturday): Squeeze here, and Phoebe Bridgers at the NEC.
- 5 December (Saturday): UB40 here, and Gladiators Live at the NEC.
Rail and road traffic into New Street peak on these nights. Our guide to Atif Aslam at bp pulse LIVE covers the NEC side of 13 November.
Midweek and comedy nights
Shows on a Wednesday or Thursday are calmer, but you can still queue for the car park. Comedy nights can finish later than people expect, particularly for anyone travelling from outside the city. Plan your return for the end of the night, not the doors time.
Sunday sport
Netball Aid on Sunday 15 November is a different kind of event from a concert. Check the event page for the exact times, and plan your pickup around the final whistle.
Parking at Utilita Arena Birmingham
The three car parks
According to Accessable’s access guide, the North car park is off King Edwards Road. The South car park is off Sheepcote Street, and the West car park is off St Vincent Street. West is only for pre-booked and hospitality customers, says the venue, and APCOA adds that it only opens on event days.
Pre-book for big nights
Parking is limited, according to the venue, which recommends pre-booking to guarantee a space. The car parks use barrierless number plate recognition, and the venue is cashless. Premium Lounge & Drink and Dine & Drink packages include parking, according to the event pages.
Accessible bays and larger vehicles
Blue Badge bays are on Level 11 of the South car park and Level 9 of the North car park. The West car park has bays on Level 8. Vehicles over 2m in height should use the North car park. Blue Badge holders still pay for parking, according to Accessable’s guide.
If you drive anyway
Drivers should book a space, check the Clean Air Zone status of their car and arrive well before doors. Decide in advance who will drive home, and keep a small amount of time free after the show for the queue to clear.
Leaving the car park
Car parks empty slowly after a show. Leaving the arena at the curfew puts you in the same queue as thousands of others. Expect a wait, and don’t plan a tight timetable for the drive home.
Clean Air Zone charges
The venue says the arena and its car parks are inside Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone. Daily charges apply to vehicles that don’t meet the zone’s criteria. Check your vehicle on the official checker before you travel. Our Birmingham Clean Air Zone guide explains the rules.
Drop-off and pickup by pre-booked car
Designated points
Pre-book a taxi and use the designated pick-up and drop-off points, says the venue. Its page doesn’t name a location, so ask your driver to confirm one before the event. Accessable’s guide says the car parks don’t have a designated drop-off point of their own. Don’t ask a driver to stop in a live traffic lane.
Agree the return before the encore
Phone signal weakens in a crowd of thousands. Agree your pickup point and a rough time before you go in. Walk a short way from the main exit, and message your driver when you leave your seat. A map pin and a landmark help.
If you’d like a fixed price for your journey, our events chauffeur service page explains how event bookings work.
Curfews and finish times
Mariah Carey’s curfew is 11pm, according to Live Nation, so plan the pickup from the finish. We found no published running order for the other events, so plan from the end of the night, not from the doors.
Getting home by train, bus or coach
By train
According to the venue, New Street, Moor Street, Snow Hill and Five Ways stations are all a short walk away, with taxis readily available at each. Expect crowds after a big show, and check National Rail for your last train home.
By bus and coach
Buses run past the arena frequently, according to the venue. Coach passengers at Digbeth Coach Station face a 30-minute walk or a short taxi ride, and the venue recommends a taxi.
From Birmingham Airport
The venue puts the airport 16 miles away, and a taxi is available there. Birmingham International station also offers a train service to New Street. Our airport transfers include flight monitoring, so a delayed landing doesn’t mean a missed pickup.
A sample Friday evening
This timeline is an illustration for two people attending Paul Heaton on Friday 13 November. It isn’t a timetable.
- 4.45pm: Pickup from home or work.
- 5.45pm: Arrive near the arena, with a short walk to the entrance.
- 6.00pm: Doors open.
- 7.30pm: The show starts.
- 10.30pm: Walk to your agreed pickup point.
- 10.45pm: Your driver collects you.
The doors and start times come from the venue. Adjust the rest for your journey, and add more time on nights when the NEC is busy too.
Tickets on your phone
The venue points visitors to its Venue App Guide for mobile tickets. Download your tickets before you leave, because mobile signal can slow down in a crowd. Charge your phone, and screenshot your tickets for everyone in your party. A flat battery at the entrance causes more delay than any queue.
Winter weather and walking
From November, evenings are dark and cold, and the walk from your pickup point to the entrance can be wet. Wear a warm, waterproof coat that you’re happy to carry, because the bag rules limit what you can bring in. Allow a few extra minutes for the walk, and keep your phone in an inside pocket so the battery lasts.
Premium and hospitality guests
The venue sells Premium Lounge Access, Premium Lounge & Drink, Premium Dine & Drink and All-Inclusive packages. Several include parking and priority entry, according to its event pages. Holders should check their ticket for the entrance and parking details. Tell us if you’d like your driver to meet you at a specific point.
Accessibility and access needs
Accessible tickets are sold online for all events, subject to availability, according to the venue. Blue Badge bays are on South Level 11 with access to Entrance D, North Level 9, and West Level 8 with access to Entrance C. Tell us about any mobility needs when you book, so your driver can plan the closest sensible stop.
If an event changes
Events can be postponed, rescheduled or cancelled. Check the venue’s event page and your ticket provider in the days before the show. Tell us as soon as you know your plans have changed, so we can adjust your booking and move your pickup.
Christmas in the city centre
From early November, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market fills the streets with visitors until Christmas Eve, according to local listings. Expect more foot traffic around the city centre on December event nights. Mariah Carey’s show on Friday 27 November falls in the middle of the market season, so allow extra time. Our guide to Mariah Carey Birmingham parking covers that night in detail.
Venue rules for every event
Bags
The venue searches all bags, and it prefers you don’t bring one. If you need to, it must be no bigger than A4 (21cm by 30cm by 19cm), with a maximum of two compartments. Rucksacks aren’t permitted.
Age limits
On seated tickets, under-14s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over with a valid ticket. Standing floors don’t admit under-14s, and 14 and 15-year-olds need an adult.
Food, drink and security
Outside food and drink aren’t permitted, and the venue sells food and drink inside. Security uses Evolv Express screening, so allow time at the entrance.
Groups and corporate guests
Friends and families
The Mercedes-Benz V-Class seats up to seven passengers, so a group can travel together and share one fare. A Mercedes-Benz E-Class or S-Class suits couples. Tell us the number of passengers when you book.
Corporate guests
Companies often take clients to arena shows. Our corporate service offers fixed or pre-agreed rates, multiple authorised bookers and consolidated monthly VAT invoicing with journey-level detail. It also includes a dedicated account manager and hourly or full-day hire.
Staying overnight in the city
Travelling from further away? The venue lists hotels on its own site, and event weekends fill up, so book early. Give us the hotel address and your show time when you book. We’ll then plan a short, well-timed journey to the arena.
What to tell us when you book
- The event and date
- Your pickup address and your arrival time
- The number of passengers
