Flights to the Caribbean from Birmingham go direct to four destinations this winter, all with TUI Airways. They are Barbados, Jamaica, Cancun on Mexico’s Caribbean coast and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. No non-stop flight links Birmingham with St Lucia, Antigua or Grenada. For those islands you’ll fly from London, where British Airways runs a daily Gatwick service to St Lucia from 25 October 2026.
This guide covers each Birmingham route and the London options for other islands. It also explains how to choose between them, and how to plan the airport journey for long-haul departures and early-morning returns.
Flights to the Caribbean from Birmingham at a glance
| Destination | Airline | Days in listings | Flight time (Birmingham Airport) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barbados (Bridgetown) | TUI | Fridays | 8 hours 45 minutes |
| Jamaica (Montego Bay) | TUI | Tuesdays and Saturdays | About 10 hours |
| Cancun, Mexico | TUI | Wednesdays and Sundays | 10 hours 5 minutes |
| Dominican Republic (Punta Cana) | TUI | Mondays and Fridays, charter | 8 hours 50 minutes |
Birmingham Airport’s destination pages, such as its Barbados page, list TUI as the only direct airline on all four routes and give the flight times. They also say Punta Cana has two flights a week. The days come from timetable listings, which mostly show summer schedules. TUI sets its winter days separately, so confirm yours before you book.
What counts as a direct Caribbean flight from Birmingham
Only TUI flies non-stop
Birmingham Airport lists TUI as the sole direct airline on all four Caribbean routes. That limits your choice of days and times, but it also keeps things simple. Schedule listings show Boeing 787 Dreamliners on all four routes.
Package or flight only
TUI sells many seats on these routes as part of holidays. Some flights, such as Punta Cana’s, appear in listings as charters. Flight-only seats depend on the date and availability, so compare a flight-only price with a package before you decide.
Why days matter
Each route flies once or twice a week, so your dates may decide your destination. If your trip runs Saturday to Saturday, Jamaica fits. A Friday departure suits Barbados. Check the days first, then build your holiday around them.
Barbados from Birmingham
The flight
TUI flies from Birmingham to Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown. Schedule listings show Friday departures, for example on 6 and 13 November, leaving in the early morning and landing around lunchtime local time. Birmingham Airport lists the flight time at 8 hours 45 minutes.
On arrival
The airport says taxis and car rental are outside the arrivals area, and public transport options are limited. Some hotels provide complimentary shuttles, so check with yours before you fly. Barbados drivers use the left-hand side of the road, as in the UK.
Jamaica from Birmingham
TUI flies non-stop from Birmingham to Montego Bay, with morning departures and early-afternoon arrivals in listings. Return flights land back in Birmingham in the early hours, so plan the journey home in advance. Our guide to flights to Jamaica from Birmingham covers the days, London alternatives, entry rules and safety advice, so we won’t repeat them here.
Cancun and Punta Cana: the other direct routes
Cancun, Mexico
TUI’s Birmingham to Cancun flight is one of the longest direct flights from the airport, at 10 hours 5 minutes, according to Birmingham Airport. The airport adds that Cancun Airport is 12km from downtown, with a direct airport bus to Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Listings show departures on Wednesdays and Sundays, with return flights leaving Cancun in the afternoon and landing in Birmingham in the early morning. Check which days apply this winter.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Listings show TUI’s Punta Cana flights on Mondays and Fridays, flagged as charter flights, which matches the airport’s figure of two flights a week. The flight takes about 8 hours 50 minutes, and the airport advises agreeing a taxi price before you travel into town, a 20 to 25 minute journey. Charter flights are usually part of a holiday, so expect to book a package.
Other Caribbean islands from London
St Lucia
No direct flight links Birmingham with St Lucia. According to Saint Lucia’s tourism authority, British Airways runs a daily direct service from London Gatwick to Hewanorra International Airport from 25 October 2026. Virgin Atlantic also flies to the island from Heathrow, listings show.
Antigua, Grenada and beyond
Listings show direct flights from London to Antigua and Grenada with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Frequencies and seasons change, so check each airline’s site. If your island isn’t on the Birmingham list, plan on a London departure or a connection.
Getting from Birmingham to London
Heathrow is closer, at around 120 miles, and Gatwick is roughly 140 to 150 miles away, according to our Jamaica guide. A door-to-door car handles the distance in one go. Our Birmingham to Gatwick transfers cover the airport that British Airways uses for St Lucia, and we also run Heathrow transfers.
Which of the four Birmingham routes suits you?
Barbados and Punta Cana have the shortest flights, at 8 hours 45 to 8 hours 50 minutes. Drivers in Barbados use the left, as in the UK. Jamaica’s flight takes about ten hours, and its entry and safety advice needs a careful read.
Cancun means a flight of just over ten hours, plus Mexican entry rules. Punta Cana usually means a package holiday. Pick the destination first, then the days, because each route flies only once or twice a week.
Birmingham or London: which is right for your island?
| Factor | Birmingham | London |
|---|---|---|
| Islands | Barbados, Jamaica, Cancun, Punta Cana | Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua, Grenada and more |
| Airlines | TUI only | British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, TUI |
| Journey to the airport | Short for the Midlands | A long road or rail journey first |
| Days | One or two a week per route | More days for some islands, such as BA’s daily St Lucia flight |
| Pricing | Compare package and flight-only prices | Compare package and flight-only prices |
When Birmingham makes sense
Choose Birmingham when your destination and days match TUI’s schedule. You skip a long transfer, and you start and end the holiday close to home. For families with children, a short journey on departure day helps.
When London makes sense
Choose London when you want a specific island, a particular airline or more flexibility on dates. The extra transfer adds a few hours, so plan it carefully and leave a larger buffer on departure day.

Planning a winter holiday to the Caribbean
Peak dates
Christmas, New Year and school holidays are busy, and with one or two flights a week per route, seats can sell out. Book as early as you can. Compare the days across all four Birmingham routes before you fix your dates.
Comparing the full cost
A cheap flight isn’t the whole price. Add the hotel, resort transfers, baggage fees and the cost of reaching the airport. Compare the cost of two weeks’ parking with a booked car for both legs. Then you’re comparing like with like.
Arriving in the Caribbean
Arrange your resort transfer before you fly. Barbados’s airport lists taxis outside arrivals, and some hotels run shuttles, but your options differ by island. Check your hotel’s advice, and keep your address handy for immigration forms.
Weather and hurricane season
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, according to our Jamaica guide. If you travel before the end of November, check whether severe weather has affected tourist services. Insurance that covers disruption is worth having.
The Christmas rail closure
No trains run to, from or through Birmingham New Street from 24 to 28 December 2026. If you planned to reach the airport by train, you’ll need another plan. Our Birmingham New Street Christmas closure guide explains the alternatives.
The airport journey: early starts and early returns
Departure day
Morning departures are common on these routes, with flights leaving Birmingham between about 8am and 11am in listings. For a long-haul flight, many travellers aim to arrive about three hours before departure. Our guide to how early to arrive at Birmingham Airport gives realistic timings, and that decides when your pickup should start.
Coming home
Return flights from the Caribbean often land in the early hours. A Cancun return listed on a Wednesday landed around 7.55am, and Jamaica returns have landed between about 5.15am and 7.30am. Tell your driver your flight number, because we track your flight and move the pickup if you land early or late.
A sample departure day
This timeline is an illustration for a 9.30am TUI departure. It isn’t a timetable.
- 4.45am: Pickup from home.
- 6.15am: Arrive at Birmingham Airport.
- 6.30am: Check in and drop bags.
- 7.30am: Go through security and have breakfast.
- 9.30am: Depart for the Caribbean.

Waiting time
Our meet and greet page says every Birmingham Airport pickup includes 60 minutes of complimentary waiting time. After a long overnight flight, queues and bags can take a while, so that gives you breathing room. Your driver waits for you in arrivals, rather than leaving you to hunt for a taxi.
After an overnight flight
Landing at dawn after a long flight is tiring. Don’t drive yourself home if you’ve barely slept. A booked car lets you rest on the way, and your driver handles the luggage and the morning traffic.
Before you fly: entry and documents
Entry requirements differ by island, so read the FCDO’s travel advice for your destination before you book. Check that your passport is valid for the length of your stay, and look at any online entry forms. Jamaica uses a C5 form, which our Jamaica guide explains. Travel insurance should cover medical care and disruption. GOV.UK says the UK’s GHIC doesn’t cover Jamaica, so don’t rely on it anywhere in the region.
Families, groups and luggage
Space for the whole group
Caribbean holidays often mean large cases, buggies and presents. The Mercedes-Benz V-Class carries up to seven passengers with luggage, so a family or group travels together. Tell us the number of passengers and bags when you book, and we’ll choose the right vehicle.
Corporate and group travel
Companies sometimes send teams to events or retreats in the Caribbean. Our corporate service offers fixed or pre-agreed rates, flight monitoring and meet-and-greet. It also includes a dedicated account manager, consolidated monthly VAT invoicing with journey-level detail and multiple authorised bookers. These features suit a team travelling in several groups.
Luggage and allowances
Baggage allowances differ by airline and fare, so check TUI’s rules for your booking before you pack. Holidays to the Caribbean tend to involve large cases, so tell us how many bags you’re bringing. Keep medication, chargers and documents in your hand luggage, because checked bags can be delayed. Leave space in the car and in your case for souvenirs on the way home.
