Yes, there is a Birmingham to Cairo direct flight, and it starts very soon. EgyptAir begins non-stop flights from Birmingham Airport to Cairo International in the last week of October 2026. Birmingham Airport’s announcement gives Tuesday 27 October, although some booking listings show a first flight on Sunday 25 October. EgyptAir will fly four times a week, using a Boeing 737 MAX 8. Birmingham Airport describes it as its first and only direct link to Cairo.
Before this route, industry reports say travellers from the Midlands had to connect through hubs such as Frankfurt or Istanbul, or head to London. This guide covers the schedule and flight times, check-in at Birmingham Airport, Egypt’s entry rules and FCDO advice. It also explains how to get to and from the airport with family and luggage.

EgyptAir schedule from Birmingham Airport
Which days does it fly?
Birmingham Airport and EgyptAir confirm four flights a week. They operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, and the airport says the service runs all year. Tickets went on sale in June 2026. Its announcement gives 27 October as the start date. A few aviation reports and booking sites show a Sunday 25 October departure instead, so check the date on your own booking.
Flight times
Booking listings for launch week show a departure from Birmingham at 1.30pm on Tuesday 27 October. It arrives in Cairo at 9.40pm local time, after about five hours and ten minutes. A listed return on Friday 30 October leaves Cairo at 8.40am and lands in Birmingham at 12.30pm. Sources list slightly different weekdays and times for each direction, so confirm yours.
The time difference
Cairo is usually two hours ahead of the UK in winter. However, Egypt and the UK change their clocks on different dates, so the gap can vary by an hour around the clock changes. That’s why the first flights show a 9.40pm arrival, while later ones may show an hour earlier. Check local time before you plan your pick-up in Cairo.
Onward connections
EgyptAir says passengers can connect through Cairo to destinations in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. It also lists its domestic network, which includes the Red Sea coast and Upper Egypt. If you plan to see Luxor or Aswan, ask about connections when you book.
Why a direct flight helps
No connection to manage
A non-stop flight means no change of plane, no transfer of bags and no risk of missing a connection. That matters most for older relatives, families with young children and anyone carrying gifts.
Compared with connecting
Industry reports say travellers previously had to connect, for example through Frankfurt or Istanbul, or head south to London for a direct flight. Connections add hours to the journey. For many families in Birmingham, Coventry and the Black Country, a non-stop flight from the Midlands saves a day.
Comparing prices
Fares vary by date, and comparison sites show different figures for the same flight. Compare EgyptAir’s own website with comparison sites before you pay. Check which baggage allowance each fare includes.
Check-in at Birmingham Airport
When to arrive
For an international flight, many travellers aim to reach the airport around three hours before departure. Check EgyptAir’s check-in opening time on your booking, because it can vary by flight. Our guide to how early to arrive at Birmingham Airport gives realistic timings, and Birmingham Airport’s check-in information page lists desks and opening times.
Hand luggage and liquids
Your cabin bag must follow UK security rules on the way out. Our guides to UK hand luggage size and weight rules and the UK liquids rules explain the limits. Check EgyptAir’s own cabin baggage allowance too.
Assistance and lounges
If anyone in your group needs help in the airport, request assistance with EgyptAir in advance. Our guide to Birmingham Airport special assistance explains how it works. If you’d like somewhere quieter before the flight, see our Birmingham Airport lounges guide.
Getting to Birmingham Airport
Timing a lunchtime departure
The launch-week flight leaves in the early afternoon, so most travellers can avoid a very early start. Plan your journey around rush hour, because the roads into the airport are busy in the morning. Our Birmingham Airport departure guide explains the process from drop-off to the gate.
Drop-off, parking or a chauffeur
Birmingham Airport charges for drop-off, and the rules change over time. Our guide to Birmingham Airport drop-off charges explains the current position. For a long trip to Egypt, our comparison of airport parking vs a chauffeur shows how the costs compare.
Space for family and luggage
Trips to Egypt often involve large cases and gifts. For groups of up to seven, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class has room for passengers and luggage. Our V-Class luggage capacity guide explains what fits. Tell us how many cases you’re bringing when you book.

Entry rules for Egypt
Passport validity
GOV.UK says your passport must have an expiry date at least six months after the day you arrive. It also needs at least one blank page. You’ll be denied entry without a valid travel document. Read the GOV.UK entry requirements for Egypt before you book.
Do you need a visa?
British passport holders normally need a visa for Egypt. GOV.UK lists three ways to get one. You can apply for an e-visa online, apply through the Egyptian Consulate General in the UK, or buy a visa on arrival.
Visa on arrival at Cairo
GOV.UK says airports with visa kiosks sell a physical visa for 30 US dollars, cash only, valid for up to 30 days. From 1 August 2026, Cairo International Airport also sells digital visas on arrival. They cost 36 US dollars, including a 6 dollar service fee, and you pay by card.
Cash or card for your visa
If you choose the physical visa kiosk, bring 30 US dollars in cash, because it doesn’t take cards. The Cairo digital option takes cards only. GOV.UK says getting an e-visa in advance can help prevent delays.
Avoid visa agents
GOV.UK says you don’t need to buy a visa from an agent in the airport. Agents often charge more than the official fee. If an agent harasses you, report it to the tourist police in the terminal.
Money, customs and health
You can bring up to 5,000 Egyptian pounds in or out of Egypt. Foreign currency worth more than 10,000 US dollars must be declared. A yellow fever certificate is only needed if you’re coming from a country listed as a transmission risk. See TravelHealthPro’s Egypt guide for health advice.
Dual nationals
GOV.UK says British citizens must carry a valid British passport or certificate of entitlement when returning to the UK. That applies to dual nationals too.
FCDO advice for Egypt
Areas to avoid
The FCDO advises against all travel to parts of Egypt, including North Sinai and the area within 20km of the Libyan border. It also advises against all but essential travel to other areas. They include the northern part of South Sinai, the east of the Ismailiyah Governorate and much of the Western Desert. Cairo isn’t among the areas it lists. Read the FCDO’s Egypt travel advice before you book.
Regional tensions
The FCDO says the situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable. It updated its Egypt advice in August 2026, and it still showed as current on 13 October 2026. Check the advice again just before you fly.
Insurance
Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against FCDO advice. GOV.UK recommends insurance that covers your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency.
Delays, cancellations and compensation
UK261 rules cover flights departing from UK airports, whichever airline operates them. That includes EgyptAir’s flights from Birmingham. For flights into the UK, UK261 applies only to UK or EU airlines. EgyptAir is neither, so check its own policy and your insurance for the return leg. Our guide to UK261 flight compensation rules explains what you can claim. If your bags don’t arrive, see our guide to lost or delayed baggage compensation.
Coming home from Cairo

If your flight is late, our guide to what happens when your flight is delayed explains how pickups are adjusted.
Business travel to Cairo
Companies sending staff to Egypt can book through a corporate chauffeur account. It includes a dedicated account manager, fixed rates and consolidated monthly VAT invoicing with journey-level detail. Multiple authorised bookers can arrange journeys on the same account.
