Ski flights from Birmingham for winter 2026/27 cover six Alpine gateways with Jet2, from mid-December 2026: Chambéry, Geneva, Grenoble, Innsbruck, Salzburg and Turin. Other airlines add seasonal choice. easyJet lists winter flights from Birmingham to Grenoble and Innsbruck, Ryanair flies to Grenoble, and TUI serves Innsbruck. Between them, these routes reach the French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian Alps.
The flight is only half the challenge. Skis, boots and winter luggage don’t fit in most cars, and many ski flights leave early on Saturday mornings. This guide lists the routes and explains which gateway suits which resorts. It also covers checking in your ski equipment and getting to BHX with your kit.

Which gateway suits which resort?
Geneva
Geneva is the busiest ski gateway, with up to four Jet2 flights a week from Birmingham. It serves resorts across the French Alps and western Switzerland, including the Chamonix valley and the Portes du Soleil area. Transfer times from the airport vary widely by resort, so check how long yours takes before you book.
Chambéry and Grenoble
Both of these smaller airports come alive in the ski season. For the Tarentaise valley in the French Alps, Chambéry is a popular gateway, while Grenoble serves resorts in the southern French Alps. You’ll also find the widest choice of airlines on the Grenoble route, with Jet2, easyJet and Ryanair all listing seasonal flights from Birmingham.
Salzburg and Innsbruck
For Austria, the main gateways are Salzburg and Innsbruck. Salzburg suits resorts in Salzburger Land and nearby Tyrol. Innsbruck sits right in the Tyrolean Alps, so many resorts are a fairly short transfer away. Its approach through the mountains is challenging, so weather-related diversions are occasionally possible.
Turin
Turin is the gateway to the Italian Alps, including the Milky Way ski area. Jet2 flies there weekly from Birmingham during the season.
When the ski season runs
Season dates
Jet2’s ski flights from Birmingham run from mid-December 2026 and through the winter season. Other airlines’ seasonal routes usually follow a similar pattern, with most flights operating from December to around early April. Exact start and end dates vary by route and airline.
Peak weeks
Christmas, New Year and February half-term are the busiest times for ski holidays. Over February half-term, Jet2 adds a second Saturday flight to Grenoble and Salzburg to meet demand. Flights and accommodation for these weeks book up quickly and cost more.
Booking ahead for next winter
Jet2 has already put its Winter 27/28 ski programme on sale from Birmingham. It covers the same six gateways, with services from mid-December 2027. If you know your dates, booking early usually gives you the best choice of flights.
Flying with skis and snowboards
Booking your ski carriage
Skis and snowboards normally count as sports equipment, and airlines charge extra to carry them. Book your ski or snowboard carriage when you book your flight, or add it in advance through the airline’s website. Paying at the airport usually costs more, if it’s possible at all.
Checking the rules
Each airline sets its own rules on weight, size and what you can pack in your ski bag. Some allow boots and helmets inside the ski bag, while others ask you to pack them separately. Check your airline’s sports equipment policy before you pack.
Packing tips
- Use a padded ski or snowboard bag to protect your equipment.
- Label your bag with your name and contact details, inside and out.
- Weigh your bags at home to avoid excess baggage charges.
- If your airline allows it, pack your ski boots in your hand luggage, so you can still ski if your hold luggage is delayed.
Our guide to UK hand luggage size and weight rules explains what you can take in the cabin.
Dropping ski bags at Birmingham Airport
Most UK airports, including Birmingham, have a separate drop point for oversized items such as skis, golf bags and pushchairs. Check in at your airline’s desk first, then take your ski bag to the oversized baggage drop, allowing a few extra minutes for this. Our guide to flying with golf clubs explains how oversized baggage works at UK airports.
Flight-only or a ski package?
Booking a package
Ski tour operators combine flights, accommodation and resort transfers into one booking, and sometimes lift passes and equipment hire too. Birmingham Airport’s own ski guide highlights Inghams, for example, with holidays to Swiss resorts in the Graubünden and Jungfrau regions. A package can make planning simpler, especially for first-timers and families, as the transfer from the airport to your resort is usually included.
Booking flight-only
Flight-only works well if you already have somewhere to stay, such as a chalet booked with friends, or you’d rather choose your own resort and dates. You’ll then need to arrange your own transfer from the arrival airport to the resort. Depending on the gateway, your options include shared shuttles, private transfers, trains and hire cars.
Thinking about both ends
Whichever you choose, plan both ends of the journey. A package normally covers the Alpine transfer, but not the trip from your home to Birmingham Airport with your equipment.
Getting to Birmingham Airport with your skis
Why transport matters for a ski trip
A ski trip usually means more luggage than a summer holiday: ski or snowboard bags, boot bags, suitcases and warm clothing. Ski bags are often well over a metre and a half long, so they won’t fit in many family cars, especially once passengers are on board.
Early Saturday departures
Many ski flights leave early on a Saturday morning. In winter, that can mean leaving home before dawn, possibly in frost or fog. Our guide to early-morning airport transfers explains how to plan your departure time.
Choosing the right vehicle
For ski trips, the Mercedes-Benz V-Class is usually the most practical choice. It seats up to seven passengers and has more luggage space than a saloon. Tell us how many ski or snowboard bags you’re bringing, and how long they are, so we can confirm everything fits. Our guide to V-Class luggage capacity for family holidays explains what the vehicle can carry.

Parking vs a transfer
A week’s airport parking soon adds up, especially at peak times. Our comparison of Birmingham Airport parking vs a chauffeur shows how the costs compare. A transfer also saves you taking your skis on the shuttle bus from the long-stay car park.
Coming home from the slopes
Arrivals and flight monitoring
On the way home, you’ll be tired, carrying the same bulky equipment and possibly landing late in the evening. Our Birmingham Airport transfers include flight monitoring, so your pickup adjusts if your flight lands early or late. With meet and greet at Birmingham Airport, your chauffeur waits for you in arrivals.
Delays and diversions
Winter weather can delay flights at either end of the journey. Snow and low cloud occasionally affect mountain airports, and fog can disrupt UK airports in winter. Our guide to winter fog delays at UK airports explains what to expect. If your flight is delayed, see what happens when your flight is delayed and your chauffeur is booked.
Oversized baggage on arrival
Ski bags usually come out at a separate oversized baggage belt or area, rather than on the main carousel. Check the screens in the baggage hall, and allow extra time before heading to arrivals.
Planning your departure day
How early to arrive
Allow extra time at the airport for checking in your ski equipment, especially on busy Saturday mornings and during peak weeks. Our guide to how early to arrive at Birmingham Airport gives realistic timings for different flights.
Lounges before an early flight
Before an early ski flight, a lounge gives you breakfast and a quieter place to wait. Our Birmingham Airport lounges guide covers the options.
Travel documents and insurance
For travel in Europe, check your passport’s validity and any entry requirements before you go. Make sure your travel insurance includes winter sports cover too, as many standard policies don’t cover skiing or snowboarding without an add-on.
Group and corporate ski trips
Ski trips are often group holidays, with families or friends travelling together. For larger groups, one or more V-Class vehicles keep everyone and the equipment together. Businesses organising staff or client ski trips can use a corporate chauffeur account, which includes a dedicated account manager, fixed rates and consolidated monthly VAT invoicing.
Book your ski airport transfer
National Executive Transfers provides fixed-price chauffeur transfers to and from Birmingham Airport, with space for skis, snowboards and winter luggage in the Mercedes-Benz V-Class. Flight monitoring is included, and meet and greet is available on your return. Tell us your flight, passenger numbers and ski equipment, and we’ll plan the right vehicle and pickup time.
