Edgbaston Ashes 2027 is the third Test of five, from Thursday 8 to Monday 12 July 2027, with play starting at 11am each day. Tickets for days one to four sold out through the ballot, so most readers now hold a day-five ticket, a hospitality package or a place on a group trip. Travel is the next job, and the Monday finish is the awkward part.
This guide covers the dates and daily timings, ticket status, parking rules and the practical options for getting there and home. It keeps the transport detail short and links to our full Edgbaston travel guide.
Details last checked on 3 November 2026. Edgbaston’s 2027 spectator guide isn’t published yet, so gate times and road closures come from recent Tests. Check the club’s matchday information before you travel.

Edgbaston Ashes 2027 dates and daily timings
The five days
| Day | Date | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Thursday 8 July | Weekday, so the evening peak overlaps the close of play |
| Day 2 | Friday 9 July | Weekday, with a busy Friday evening in the city |
| Day 3 | Saturday 10 July | A weekend day, with no commuter peak |
| Day 4 | Sunday 11 July | A weekend day, with no commuter peak |
| Day 5 | Monday 12 July | Weekday, with both a morning and an evening peak |
The match isn’t guaranteed to last five days, but each day can draw a large crowd. Our guide to when rush hour hits Birmingham puts the weekday evening peak at about 4pm to 6:30pm. That overlaps with a 6pm close of play.
A typical day’s timetable
Edgbaston hasn’t published its 2027 timetable. At recent Tests, including the 2023 Ashes Test and the 2025 India Test, the club used these timings:
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 9am | Gates open |
| 11am | Play starts |
| 1pm to 1:40pm | Lunch |
| 3:40pm to 4pm | Tea |
| About 6pm | Scheduled close of play |
Each day schedules 90 overs, and delays can push the finish later. Treat 6pm as the earliest you’ll be leaving, not a fixed time.
Tickets: what’s sold out and what’s left
Days one to four
The club announced on 7 October that tickets for the first four days had sold out after a record ballot. Any returns go first to members and unsuccessful ballot entrants, and the club says any extra tickets for the Men’s Ashes Test will be extremely limited.
Day five
Day-five tickets went on general sale at £25, plus a £2.50 booking fee. We couldn’t confirm what’s left today, so check the club’s ticketing page. Buy only from official sellers, because they’re the safest route to a valid ticket.
Hospitality and the new hotel
Hospitality packages are on sale for the Test, including boxes, terraces and suites, and company takeovers. Edgbaston’s new Radisson RED hotel opens in 2027, with rooms offering views of the pitch, and the club lists Ashes hotel rooms as on sale. If you’re hosting clients, our hospitality and PR chauffeur service covers larger guest programmes.
Why Ashes week needs extra transport planning
The crowd arrives at once
Edgbaston is usually quoted at around 25,000 spectators. Our Edgbaston travel guide notes that a Test crowd largely arrives within an hour or two of the start of play. That squeezes the roads and the 501 shuttle into the same morning window.
Weekday evenings and the Monday finish
Close of play at 6pm on Thursday, Friday and Monday lands inside the weekday evening peak. If play finishes at 6pm, the crowd leaves just as commuters are heading home. On Monday 12 July, a morning peak between about 7am and 9:30am comes before the gates open at 9am, and the evening peak follows the finish.
Road closures around the ground
Transport for West Midlands says Edgbaston Road is closed to traffic between Pershore Road and Russell Road during major events. At the September 2026 Test, the club closed Edgbaston Road for about two hours before play and up to two hours after it finished. Expect something similar for the Ashes, and check the 2027 guide for the exact windows.
Getting to Edgbaston: the options in brief
The table gives the short version. Our full Edgbaston Test match travel guide compares every option in detail.
| Option | What Edgbaston says | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Train to New Street and the 501 shuttle | The shuttle runs for selected major fixtures from Smallbrook Queensway, from up to two hours before play | Shuttle details for the Ashes aren’t confirmed |
| Moseley Village station | A 15 to 20 minute walk from the stadium | Not suitable for everyone after a long day |
| Local bus | Several services run near the ground | Crowds and road closures |
| Car | Parking must be booked in advance | Limited spaces and a slow exit |
| Taxi or chauffeur | Agree the stopping point in advance | Road closures affect the pickup point |
The 501 shuttle drops passengers on Priory Road, and return services leave from the Indoor School after play. Edgbaston currently lists day passes at £6 for adults and £4.50 for children. Check the price for the Ashes before you travel.
Parking for the Ashes Test
What Edgbaston says
Edgbaston says matchday parking is limited, depends on the fixture and must be booked in advance. Parking for major matches is sold through its parking partner. Blue Badge parking must be reserved in advance through the club’s ticketing site.
Don’t plan to turn up and park on the day. Check the club’s Ashes page for the parking options and prices once they’re published.
The Clean Air Zone
The stadium is outside Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone, although some routes to the ground pass through it. Check your vehicle before you travel if you’re coming through the city centre.
Planning day five: Monday 12 July
Why Monday needs its own plan
Day-five tickets are the main way in for many readers, and Monday is the hardest day to travel. It’s a working day, so commuter traffic fills the morning and the evening. A result can also arrive earlier than the 6pm close, so the crowd may leave in the afternoon.
A sample day
The table is an illustration. The club hasn’t published its 2027 timings, so adjust it once it does.
| Time | What to plan |
|---|---|
| Before 7am | Leave early if you’re driving, or plan to arrive well after the morning peak |
| 9am | Gates are likely to open, based on recent Tests |
| Before 10am | At recent matches, the club has advised arriving before 10am |
| 11am | Play starts |
| 1pm to 1:40pm | Lunch |
| 3:40pm to 4pm | Tea |
| About 6pm | Scheduled close, unless the match ends earlier or runs late |
| 6:30pm to 7:30pm | A sample pickup window for a pre-booked car |
If you’re booking a car, agree a window instead of a single time. Tell your driver if the match ends early, so the pickup can move.
Other matchdays at Edgbaston in 2027
Edgbaston has four major match days in 2027. After the Ashes Test, the club hosts Vitality Blast Finals Day on Saturday 17 July and the women’s Ashes ODI on Tuesday 20 July. The men’s ODI against New Zealand follows on Tuesday 14 September. Road closures, parking and shuttle rules can differ for each fixture, so check the club’s guide for the match you’re attending.
Taxis and chauffeurs on Ashes match days
Where cars can stop
Edgbaston’s travel page doesn’t name a general taxi drop-off point. At recent major matches, the club has offered an accessibility drop-off at the Pershore Road entrance by the Edgbaston Cricket Centre. Ask the club whether that arrangement applies to the Ashes, and tell your driver.
Because of the road closures, a driver can’t stop outside the stadium for hours around play. Agree a set-down and a pickup point outside the closure, and send a map pin.
Planning the return
If close of play is 6pm, the roads and the shuttle queue are at their busiest in the following hour. A pre-booked pickup at 6:30pm to 7:30pm avoids the worst of it. Agree a window instead of a single time, because the finish can move.
The Mercedes V-Class takes up to seven passengers with seven bags, which suits a group travelling together. We don’t remove matchday congestion, and for a solo spectator already in the city centre, the shuttle may be faster. A pre-booked car helps most for groups, luggage and the return journey.
Hospitality and corporate groups
For corporate groups, a corporate account offers fixed or pre-agreed rates, multiple authorised bookers and consolidated monthly VAT invoicing with journey-level detail. Hourly hire suits a day with a hotel, the ground and a dinner. Tell us the number of guests and the hospitality area, and we’ll plan the arrivals.
Arriving from overseas or elsewhere in the UK
Many Ashes supporters travel a long way. If you’re arriving by air, our airport transfers cover Birmingham Airport, Heathrow, Manchester and other UK airports, with flight monitoring and meet and greet on airport bookings. Overseas visitors should also check on GOV.UK whether they need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation before they fly.
If you’re staying overnight, the Radisson RED at Edgbaston is one option. The related guide below covers where to stay in Birmingham.
